CURSES!

The Drowned Team made this game as the final project of the Game Designer and Game Programmer Level 2 course offer by Digital Bros Game Academy (based in Milan).

Requirements

  • If you want to play on PC run Curses!.exe file inside FT Build folder.
  • If you want to play on Web Browser click  to play on the preview.

This game have a save system to keep track of the level progress. 
PC - When unistall remember to delete the folder located in 

//Appdata\LocalLow\The Drowned

The game

"Curses!" is a 3D horizontal scrolling hyper casual game in which the player is in charge of a ship in a piratical world.
He has to travel the seas facing battles against other ships, kill sea monsters and destroy defensive walls in order to reach the ending beach.
Will the player survive or will suffer against the End Wall boss before the final beach
The game is structured in different levels, and the game has a ranking system that evaluates the completion of every level.
In every level the player can obtain 3 skulls and can unlock a Flag.

The Player

To achieve the final goal, the Player's Ship is equipped with two essential abilities: Vertical Movement and Shooting Ability.

Vertical Movement Shooting Ability

Press `W` or `` to move the ship to a UPPER lane.
Press `S` or `` to to move the ship to a LOWER lane.
Player can move in 3 lane.
Press `Spacebar` to SHOOT a cannonball from the ship.

The Pick-Ups

During the gameplay the player can collect pick-ups.

Cannonballs

Used to shoot and kill the enemy ship, sea monsters or destroy mines.
Doubloons

 Collect them to obtain one of the skulls in the ranking system.
Piece of Flag

Collected them to unlock the level flag.
Treasure

Open it to drop some pick-ups.

The Collectables

With the completition of a level the gameplay the player can obtain collectables.



Skull

In every level the player can obtain up to 3 skulls.
Each Skull can be obtained with the completition of a specif task.
Tasks and Skull obtained are showed on the Level Selection Menù.


Flag

In every level the player can obtain one Flag.
Each Flag can be obtained by looting some piece of Flag from the level.
Flags obtained are showed on the Flag Collection Menù.

The Enemies Ships

 During the gameplay the player can encounter some ship on the sea surface.
 Lifepoint is showed in the ship label UI if it is an hostile ship.

Normal ship

Hostile ship found on the sea surface.
The player can defeat them by shooting.
 Can drop cannonballs.
Special Ability*: shooting forward, the cannonball can't go under the sea surface.

Flag ship

Hostile ship found on the sea surface.
The player can defeat them by shooting.
Can drop cannonballs and a piece of Flag.
Special Ability: drop sea mines.


Mortar ship

Hostile ship found on the sea surface.
The player can defeat them by shooting.
Can drop cannonballs.
Special Ability: shooting upward, the cannonball can go under the sea surface.


Pirate ship

Hostile ship found on the sea surface.
The player can defeat them by shooting.
Can drop cannonballs.
Special Ability: dash near player to steal resources like doubloons and cannonballs.

Boat

Friendly ship found on the sea surface.
Will drop cannonballs on touch and allow Pirates to go on Player ship to increase the crew.

Mines and Coral

During the gameplay the player can encounter mines and coral obstacles.

Red Mine

Stationary.
Explosion on contact.
Can be destroyed by a cannonball.

Yellow Mine

Stationary but will move on contact.
Delayed explosion after contact.
Can be destroyed by a cannonball.

Blue Mine

It float on multiple lane.
Explosion on contact.
Can be destroyed by a cannonball.

Green Mine

It moves towards the seabed.
Dropped by the Flag Ship.
Explosion on contact.
Can be destroyed by a cannonball.

Coral

Stationary.
Cannot be destroyed.
Slow the Player on contact.
Can appear in multiple color.

The Sea Monsters

During the gameplay the player can encounter some deadly sea monster under the sea surface.
Lifepoint is showed in the sea monsters label UI.

Shark


Damage on contact.
Special Ability: dash forwar when the player is in front of it.

Whale

Damage on contact.
Special Ability: higher damage than other Sea Monster.

Killer Whale

Damage on contact.
Special Ability: on contact do damage and push player in a different lane.

Octopus

Damage over time after contact.
Special Ability: when near to player will follow and stick to him. After sticking it will do damage over time. The octopus will unstick if the player shoots at it or goes out of the water while sticking.

Giant Squid

Damage on contact.
Special Ability: steal pickups from player upon contact.

Shark Pack

Damage on contact.
Special Ability: istant player kill.
